Starting this week, there’s an exciting new addition to the tuneful tapestry that is Indiana’s Music City. A combination Tiki bar and karaoke parlor is opening in the downstairs storefront of TimelessLIVE, which is in the majestic and historic Masonic building on Main Street.
Regular readers may recall that TimelessLIVE opened just a few short months ago, thanks to the energy and vision of partners Angie Stone and Daryl May. The new music venue occupies the top two floors of the building, and they have been featuring live music and various leisure games for several months now. But the retail spaces on the first floor were unoccupied.
That changes on July 3 when a Tiki bar concept opens for business five days a week, Wednesday through Sunday, featuring food and drinks inspired by the popular tiki tropical theme. And on top of that, there will be karaoke happening 4 nights a week, hosted by Madison’s favorite tune spinners, L&L Karaoke.
“We think this is a great expansion on the whole concept of TimelessLIVE,” explains Daryl May. We’re essentially filling the entire building with music, drinks and food, all week long, so people will know they can come here any time and have a fun and enjoyable experience.
“The food is being provided by Butch’s BBQ on Wednesday through Fridays, and then Hot Mess Grill takes over on the weekends. We’ll be opening around dinner time each day, and we’re looking to have live music going during early hours, something like an acoustic player singing Buffett songs, something like that. Then the karaoke will take over about 8PM.
“And of course, we will continue to have high quality live music upstairs at TimelessLIVE a couple of days a week. We’ve been fine-tuning our music offerings since we’ve been open, and we’re starting to focus more on special event type shows, with bands who have a strong following, or acts that bring something a little unique to the mix.
“We feel like this first floor addition with the tiki bar and karaoke kind of completes the package. Now people will know they can come here Wednesday through Sunday and find good food, live music, and a fun vibrant atmosphere that’s perfect for a group of friends or out of town guests. There are so many things to do in Madison these days, it really is the perfect weekend getaway.”
ON ANOTHER MUSICAL NOTE: One of Madison’s favorite live performance bands, the Slick River Rockets, had their first ever album release party at Thomas Family Winery last Saturday. If you’ve never seen this super fun ensemble playing their version of rockabilly at the always cozy and welcoming Thomas Winery, you’re missing out on a quintessential Music City experience.
The band, consisting of Chip Binzer, Brook Reindollar, Rick Bennett, Bill Lancton and Eric Phagan, have been getting together to perform live for many years now, but they’d never taken the time to record their efforts for posterity. This first album was a labor of love, a long time coming.
“It was actually Dennis O’Neal who provided the push,” explains Chip. He has a recording studio here in town and he’d been bugging us for years to do an album. Then one day he just showed up at my frame shop and asked, So when are we doing this?!
“We picked a few of our favorite perennial old rock songs, and then Eric, Bill, Rick and Brook all provided some original material. I’m super happy with how it came out. I did all the artwork for the CD cover, based on a retro rocket sculpture I’ve had for a long time. It just feels really good to get some of our music recorded for posterity. The music is available on all the online streaming platforms, plus I have the CDs for sale at the frame shop if anybody wants one.”
HOT TIP OF THE WEEK:
Go check out the expanded music scene at TimelessLIVE this week. In addition to the upstairs music shows they now have a tiki bar serving food and drinks, plus karaoke after 8 pm. It’s a whole Masonic Lodge full of fun and music now! Of course the big music news in Madison this weekend is the huge Roostertail Music Festival at Bicentennial Park, Thursday thru Saturday. It’s popular country music this year, which is a great fit with the hydroplane racing that will be going on each day during the Regatta. But if you want to check out some smaller music venues, there’s still plenty of that going on, all around town. The Rockin Cowboyz band up on the hilltop at Tailgators is especially fun with their pint-sized 12 year old lead guitarist! Check it out.
